Salon hood hair dryers?

My scalp gets super sensitive to the heat from a blow dryer and I usually don't dry my hair. As its got longer though it just kind of dries pretty lifeless. I am going for a trim/re-style this weekend and when they said about a cut and blow dry, I said I didn't want it blow dried. They said that they could put me under a dryer instead because the heat is more gentle.
Is this true? And my other question is - do they always have to curl your hair when you go under a salon hood hair dryers or can they just dry it normal under a dryer?

they can dry it normal, those salon hood hair dryers are old school.

Yeah it is normaly more gentle and am sure they have to or else it cant dry all your hair
I am pretty sure my mom's was a Sears Kenmore.
