It's just for school after we've been swimming to sort out my fringe and the ends so they dont drip all down my shirt. there's a hand dryer, but everyone is always rushing to use it and it really doesnt do the job unless you stand under it for 20 minutes. I know it makes cold air, but so does my portable fan mini hair dryers, so what medicine without prescription do you think?
Reply:
just try it and see, its probably more useful than nothing, or just try and dry it with ur towel.

kiss it goodbye. the hair dryer probably isn't too good for it either.
1. We recovered our giant ranch house with an ALUMINUM roof and our summer a/c dropped 25%.
2. We put in the little dull flakey tubie light bulbs>>>we hate them>>>but it seemed to have no impact on our bill>
3. We bought a 5 kw wind turbine that produces about $580 per month of electricity….SEE: http://WWW.WIND-INC.COM
With those done we started a process of turning off the swimming pool pump and upstairs a/c.
We put in a solar powered attic fan.(cost $225)
We wANT TO PUT IN A SOLAR POWERED WATER HEATER BUT CANNOT DECIDE WHICH ONE. WE ARE NOW PRODUCING MORE ELECTRICITY THAN WE CONSUME AND RUN OUR METER BACKWARD>

I'll try to answer the questions in order.
Dishwashing, it it is just you, it may be better to wash dishes by hand. You should only run the dishwasher if it is full. To save on water you can do the dishes once a day, probably after dinner.
The type of tv will determine the energy use, avoid plasma, they use the most energy, an LCD uses less then the older styles. You can look for energy star on those as well. Avoid standby energy use from game systems and dvd players, use a power strip with a switch and turn them all of when not in use. Ipod and stereos also use standby energy.
Anything that creates heat uses a lot of energy. You can save by not washing your hair every day and letting it dry as much as possible before you blowdry it, that way you will use the dryer for less time.
Try to keep the freezer and fridge full but not over full, the more mass in either the easier it holds the chill, but air needs to be able to flow around things. If you don't have a lot of food, no need to be wasteful, put milk jugs or pitchers of water in when it is near empty.
Lighting is estimated to be 15% of electrical usage, I would change the lights you use most to CFL's and keep the old bulbs, you can take your CFL's with you when you move.
Microwaves use less energy to cook, because it is much faster and no wasted energy. You can conserve energy by putting lids on pots and not using a larger burner than you need.
I don't know about mini fridge, but unless you need it, I would sell it or store it. You will need to keep the door open or put charcoal in it so it won't mold.
About your computer, it is a waste of energy leaving it on even for an extra hour. It depends on your electricity rate and the type of computer you have. My sons desktop uses almost 100 watts when sitting idle and the monitor was about 20. Unless there is a need to leave it on I would turn it off. If you like to check email before you leave, then change your routine, get up flip the computer on, take a shower, check email, eat breakfast then dry your hair.
I can tell you we have pretty low electric rates and I saved about $25 a month when I started using power stips and shutting down our computer.
