It has to do with the amount of amperage. on line pharmacy An average extension cord holds up to about 13.4 amps. The problem is, your conair bonnet hair dryer probably draws in about 3.4 amps. While this looks pretty simple, your hair dryer will actually require more power from the extension cord, because of the distance increase, and now you're running about 4x the current, which equals 13.6 amps.
At a certain point, the amperage drop will decrease exponentially, which means now the motor will be running significantly slower, which will cause the electrical shorts to be slower, which will generate heat in the cord. And at this point, either the cord will melt (or get extremely hot), or you'll blow a circuit breaker.
Moral of the story, just live with your conair bonnet hair dryer have a short cord, and stay safe.
